Shigeko Ito grew up in Japan and immigrated to the US in her early twenties to pursue higher education. She studied early childhood education and earned an MEd, along with a Montessori teaching certificate from the College of Notre Dame in Belmont, CA, and a PhD from the Stanford Graduate School of Education, for which she wrote a dissertation on Japanese preschool education. She works at a Montessori preschool in Seattle, raises mason bees, and lives with her husband of now twenty-nine years. Her son graduated from college and works in New York City.
